Five Easy Ways to Add Luxury to Your Life Without Breaking the Bank

Invest in Soft Clothing and Accessories

Anything that touches your skin should feel soft,

It could be anything from a cashmere or merino wool sweater to a pair of fuzzy slippers, to a scarf or really comfortable cotton underwear. If it feels soft against your skin, makes you feel comfy and cozy, if it feels luxurious, then it qualifies as luxury.

Gap’s Soft Spun Knit, Banana Republic, Madewell, Urban Outfitters, Calvin Klein, And Other Stories Cashmere are all good choices.

Have a really luxurious meal

Make sure it’s good, fresh and tasty.

Spend the time to savor the food and enjoy every morsel of goodness, preferably in good company, but alone is great too.

You can do this for every meal, for breakfast on the weekends, or just once a month.

I like long leisurely brunches with Prosecco Mimosas, some sort of seafood, and real China with family and friends.

Hang out in your skivvies

Okay not really. I mean, unless that’s your thing. Often we skimp on loungewear and the items that most people won’t see. I know that I have repurposed more than one old t-shirt or baggy pair of sweats into something that I just wear around the house, but your downtime, snow days, days off should feel just as luxurious as when you are window shopping in that perfectly tailored Balmain blazer and Gucci loafers.

Luxury should be for you first, what other see is a by-product of how good you make yourself feel.

Indulge in the best treats for your budget

If chocolate is your thing, have the most decadent chocolate that you love and can afford. If its ice cream, splurge on the gelato. If it’s cookies or cupcakes, treat yourself to that thing that makes you feel the most special inside and out. If you’re gluten free, have that gold flecked macaron. These are things that you can do for a very small amount that can often be just the pick me up that you need. The point is not to overindulge, the point is to have a few small moments of me time, enjoying exactly what you want, when you want and not feeling any guilt because you know you didn’t overdo it.

Surround Yourself With Indulgent Scents

The same as with the chocolate, luxuriate in fragrance. I am a huge fan of spraying perfume or using scented body lotions even when I am just hanging out in the house watching The Affair (OMG this show is so self- indulgent and scandalous…I love it).

Scented body, scented sheets, scented air. There is nothing like being surrounded by light, beautiful, clean fragrances to make you feel as if you have stepped into the lobby of the highest end of hotels or homes. And there is nothing like catching a refreshing or sexy, or intoxicating

There is nothing like being surrounded by light, beautiful, clean fragrances to make you feel as if you have stepped into the lobby of the highest end of hotels or homes. And there is nothing like catching a refreshing or sexy, or intoxicating or restful whiff of fragrance emanating from your own body, especially at night when it’s time to drift off to a restful luxurious sleep. Because we all know that good night’s rest is the ultimate luxury experience.
